MISSIONSHIPS

    The congregation here at Smith Chapel has a heart for missions.  Several years ago, one of our  congregational leaders (Danny Sullivan) was afflicted with cancer.  We put on a concert to raise money to help with his medical expenses.  Danny passed away later that year, but we continued to have "Songs for Danny" annually to raise money for missions...a project that not only pays tribute to a man with a heart for missions, but meets the needs of people around the world.
    
    In 2008, we instituted the Danny Sullivan Mission Fund.  This fund is solely for the purpose of helping to fund short term, Christian mission trips.  We call these support gifts "Missionships."  This is above and beyond any other support we do or offer for missions here and abroad.

    If you are wanting to serve through a short-term, Christian mission trip and are looking for financial support, this is one place you can look.  Simply fill out the form below with a description of the trip you'll be taking, and we'll contact you in short order to continue the process.  If your situation fits our criteria, we'll be more than happy to give you financial and prayer support.

 Jason Sullivan            
    This past year, we had three Missionship Awardees.  The first was Jason Sullivan.  Jason was an appropriate person to begin with since his Dad was Danny Sullivan (see above).  Jason went to Russia to work on a mission trip sponsored by the United Methodist Church. 
    Our second awardee was Heather Dodge from Sterling, VA.  She came and shared her calling and experience with the crowd at our Bob Bennett Concert.  She is in the midst of traveling to eleven different nations over a period of eleven months.  You may want to visit her webpage and the website of the Mission Organization sent her out.  Her blogs are inspiring and she could use your prayer support as well as a little more financial support if the Lord so leads. 
    Our final missionship was given to Malaina Kirschner.  Malaina's trip will be to Uganda with Global Expeditions (a ministry of Teen Mania).  Her trip is scheduled for June 14 thru' July 10 of 2010.
