ABOUT US

Rev. Zuchelli entered into pastoral ministry in 1980 (no, not 1890).  He and his wife, Denise, have four grown children and three grand-children.  They currently live in Potomac Falls.

He is a graduate of Edinboro University of Pennsylvania (1971) and Pittsburgh Theological Seminary (1985).  He is a fully ordained elder in the United Methodist Church and has served the denomination for twenty-eight years (note his gray hair).Rev. David J. Zuchelli

Pastor Dave serves in what is often referred to as a “tent-making” ministry. This is a biblical reference to the apostle Paul who made and repaired tents to support himself in his mission work.  Our pastor is also the Supervisor of Accounting at Keany Produce Company.  This gives him freedom to serve a smaller congregation without placing a financial burden on either him or the church.

The pastor has a passion for preaching the Word of God and feels more at home in the pulpit than anywhere else.  He has a heart for the Scripture and holds tenaciously to its efficacy.  His goal each Sunday is to challenge our congregation to be armed with the truth and to incorporate that truth into our hearts and lives.

The seeds of Smith Chapel were planted when the family of Jesse and Lucina Smith moved here from the state of New York in 1854 and gave their life’s work to the church.  Mr. Smith was born in Maidstone, England and was 18 years old when he came to America.  He was a carpenter who helped build several churches in New York.  The Smith’s, and other faithful members of this church, were untiring in their work.
The original trustees paid $52.50 for the one and a half acres of land on which this church building stands.  The deed is dated April 1, 1890.

On May 23, 1890, the cornerstone of Smith Chapel was laid.  Following the ceremony, the men went right to work.  From this small beginning, Smith Chapel  launched herself into a ministry that continues today.

Although our congregation has been serving the Great Falls area since 1890, none of us actually remember that far back.  Still, the mission passed onto us is to be spiritually uplifting to our community and work towards a greater good. We are tireless in our efforts to feed the hungry and clothe the poor. We help those seeking spiritual healing and enlightenment to find the path that will lead them to salvation in the Lord Jesus and an abundant life in Him.

Our Pastor, Rev. David J. Zuchelli, has been in pastoral ministry since 1980 and is an ordained elder in full connection of the United Methodist Church.  His style of preaching is Bible-based and down to earth.  Together with him, we emphasize an everyday walk in the Spirit of God.

We encourage you to try us on for size.  If you're not interested in another mega-church, we're your answer.  We are a small, intimate congregation seeking to provide a rich worship experience and an opportunity to live out your calling among people of like faith and mind.
